Westfall CARES is Awarded Grant

Westfall C.A.R.E.S. (Community Alliance of Resources for Every Student) was recently awarded a grant of $5000 from the local Valero Renewables plant in Bloomingburg, Ohio. The group was nominated for this award by plant safety manager and Westfall Local Schools supporter, Casey Pringle. The group is extremely appreciative of this grant, and this money will be used to help provide weekend food for 50+ students in the school district during the school year. Westfall CARES began in March of 2017 when co-founders and Westfall Elementary staff members Kathy Fausnaugh and Lisa O’Neill asked for others to join them to find help for Westfall students in need of basic resources. Many local community leaders, churches, student groups, and concerned citizens joined together to make a difference for these students. The group sends home the weekend backpacks, as well as food boxes for extended holidays from school. The group pairs with Mid-Ohio Food Bank to supply fresh produce every other week, along with food boxes, all summer long. For more information about the group, please see the Westfall CARES Facebook page.
