The Westfall Digital Academy (WDA) provides an opportunity for students at Westfall High and Middle School to receive an online education by using the Apex Learning curriculum. By using this platform, facilitated by the WDA coordinator (Mr. Day), students get a personalized experience in a virtual setting. This flexible option allows for ongoing collaboration, interaction, and consistent feedback at each step of the learning process.
All of the courses offered through the WDA are designed to offer students flexibility and opportunities to decide when and how they learn. Students may elect to take all or half their classes online or just one class because it won’t fit into their traditional schedule. Students need to keep in mind that the courses are not written by Westfall staff -- they are facilitated using Apex Learning's online platform.
It is important for students and parents to understand that the courses are primarily self-directed and self-paced. Mr. Day has dedicated office hours for specific requests and feedback. He will also require (virtual) attendance at a weekly Google Meet and a monthly in-person gathering. Students are encouraged to engage in their courses during regular school hours, as this will allow them to have as much interaction with Mr. Day as possible.
Students who elect to enroll in the WDA and are accepted will remain connected to the high and middle schools. Guidance Counselor support, career advising, extracurricular activities, and clubs will be available.
