Our fifth-grade students recently explored the work of contemporary artist Andy Burgess, drawing inspiration from his vibrant collages created while living in New York City. Burgess is known for artwork that captures iconic landmarks and scenes from his community. Inspired by this approach, artists in Miss Marshall’s art class reflected on the places and features that make our own community special and incorporated them into their final project. Rather than using glue, students challenged themselves by sewing their collages—a technique that not only adds texture and depth to their artwork but also teaches them a lifelong skill. Miss Marshall taught them that sewing can be both creative and practical, offering a way to repair and restore items rather than replace them. The first photo is an example of Andy Burgess’s work, and the second is that of our Mustang artists. Their collage showcases several beloved spots around town. We encourage you to take a closer look and see how many you can recognize!

Today, Westfall’s Budgetary Clerk Tammy Cline visited Mrs. Woods' class for a fun and creative crafting session! With the help of Payroll Clerk Ashley Sarratt and Communications Director Emily Clark, the students made adorable washcloth bunnies that held candy-filled eggs. The class had so much fun bringing their bunny creations to life. Thank you to Tammy, Ashley, and Emily for making this fun activity possible and thank you to Mrs Woods for the invitation!

Mrs. Woods' second-grade students have been reading the book Messy Martha. In the story, Martha makes a cake with the help of her friends—measuring, mixing, and working together. Inspired by the recipe at the end of the book, the students baked their own chocolate banana cake. Thankfully, they didn’t make the same mistakes as Messy Martha—they kept the classroom kitchen clean!
