WILLIAMSPORT — “I think this year will be fun.” — Coach Raelynn Hastings

A balanced mix of returning production and new contributors shapes the outlook for Westfall High School softball under head coach Raelynn Hastings.

The Mustangs bring back key pieces on both sides of the ball. Jill Butcher, Reise Rogers, and Adrina Hicks highlight the returning bats expected to drive the offense, while Hicks and Riley Rigsby provide experience in the circle.

Several new faces are expected to make an immediate impact. Ellie Heath, Carly Atwood, Layla Geiger, Aubrey Caudy, Aubrey Bickenheuser, and Kaylynn Arthurs are among the names stepping into the lineup, adding depth across positions.

That versatility stands out early. Hastings noted that multiple players are capable of handling two or three positions, giving the team flexibility to adjust both defensively and in the batting order.

The identity of the group centers on effort and competitiveness. Hastings pointed to the team’s heart and desire to win, with an expectation that the Mustangs will compete through the final out and rely on contributions throughout the lineup offensively.

Preparation has required adjustments. Weather has limited outdoor time, forcing the team to focus on fundamentals indoors before transitioning to live situations when possible. Early scrimmages have reflected that work, with players showing the progress made over the past two months.

Improvement remains a steady focus across all areas. Rather than emphasizing one phase, the approach has been to build evenly, continuing to develop fundamentals, situational awareness, and consistency.

Team chemistry has also stood out. The group has shown strong cohesion, with players working well together and supporting one another while competing for roles.

Westfall’s approach is straightforward. The expectation is to compete in every situation, regardless of the score, and apply pressure throughout the game. That mindset, combined with lineup flexibility and multiple contributors, will shape how the Mustangs perform as the season moves forward.
